How to Naturally Increase Your Energy

you can have more energy without the coffee!

Hi friends! Happy Friday :)

If you haven't seen my latest video on how I got my energy back from quitting birth control, check it out on my Instagram or Facebook. It's good and was so unexpected! I promised I'd share more about some natural ways to increase energy and so I'll keep it short and sweet.

Vitamin B12
You guys know all those energy shots or Zipfizz packets that promise to give you that pep in your step? Have you ever checked the ingredients/nutrition in them? Not only are most of them super toxic and really not good for you, but most are filled with 1000s of a percent of vitamin B12! The most recent photo I saw of a Zipfizz serving said it had 104,167% Vitamin B12!! You guys, that's insane!! If you're wanting some natural sources of B12, look to clams, salmon, eggs, low-fat beef, fortified cereal, plant-based milks, and nutritional yeast, along with others. Vitamin B12 is not actually naturally produced in the body (darn), so it's up to us to supply our bodies with this prime energy-providing micronutrient!

Toxins
If you've been following along with me for a while, you know I love to talk about the importance of living a toxic free lifestyle! Especially if you're on birth control or transitioning off, your body needs to be able to function properly while optimizing these hormones or be able to rebalance hormones after quitting them. If your body is too busy fighting infections/inflammation/toxins from the everyday products you use, it will not be able to multitask as easily to support your body in other ways. Not to mention that all that fighting of toxins takes a toll on your body, so no wonder you feel fatigued so much!! Ditch the toxins and expect to feel a literal weight lifted off your shoulders! I promise you'll see plenty more benefits to going toxic free, but you'll also be able to have more energy. :)

Your Circadian Rhythm
I know you've heard it before, but I'm going to tell you again... It's doing you NO favors pulling those all-nighters in preparation for a test the next day or getting a work project complete for the next morning. Your body takes at least a few days to recover from one night of staying up. Ensure you're supporting your natural sleep cycle by going to bed and waking up at relatively the same times every day, including weekends. Other ways to support your circadian rhythm and prepare for a good night's rest is to take a warm bath or shower, keep your meal times to earlier in the evenings, and try to turn off electronics a bit before you're planning on heading to bed (or wear some blue-light blocking glasses).

Manage Your Stress
Stress is stressful, as well as tiring!! No one can be completely stress-free, but when you start to feel that tension in your body, find your favorite way to destress and it will help with your energy levels. Take some deep breaths, find a short meditation to do in the moment, leave the room if you're in a stressful environment or around stressful people, listen to some upbeat music, take a relaxing bath, move your body in your favorite way, or enjoy your favorite treat. Stress is not about what's happening in the moment. It's how you perceive it. Try not to overthink things!

Let me know in the comments below if you're dealing with low energy or your favorite ways to optimize feeling awake! And remember, sleep is important, so if you really can't function any longer during the day, it's okay to take a nap!! You probably deserve it. ;)
